5th grade homework... WTF

I would like to know why my 10 year old is learning stuff I didn't learn until I was in high school! Not that this is a bad thing, but I find it a little odd. Right now they are learning about the periodic table of the elements. I didn't learn the periodic table until I was 16. What will they be learning when THEY are 16, quantum physics??
